Award show that celebrates young Black boys at Legends Academy (a school in Orlando, FL) for their athletics, artistic, and academic accomplishments. The school and this award show aim to uplift and encourage these young boys to become well-educated and successful young men. I was brought on to create graphics for the awards show.

Wanted to bring in the hero color of the school: purple. I experimented with different blending modes in Photoshop to incorporate the color on B&W photos and settled on a combination to make some of the shadows purple as well as a subtle overlay so a purple tint is present throughout. Additionally, paper tears, subtle grunge texture and dirty cutouts are used to create a homemade collage feel for the piece.

Here, two of the backgrounds used, utilize a multiply effect for the collage.

The animation style seen here is used throughout for all of the motion graphics for this project. I utilized posturized time (lowered the framerate to 10 fps) and some stilted animation to make the motion feel more like stop motion – as if the words and pieces were being moved by hand.
