A short film series by HVYWT Creative that highlights the stories behind people’s favorite shoes. In essence, a love letter to sneakerhead culture. I worked to create a motion graphics package for the films themselves, as well as created still/motion graphics for Sole Stories’ social media channels.
Really playing into the grittiness of this film’s visual identity. It’s realness and honesty. Rough textures and handwritten graphics are used throughout to reflect this. In a way, it also helps to pay homeage to the era of sneakerhead culture that the film series’ creator, as well as the people featured in this series, remember fondly. The age of finding your new favorite shoes in a magazine. Circling or cutting out the ones you wish for most from store advertisements or buying catalogs.
Jagged cutouts also help to compliment the stop-motion feel used in the motion design work.
Much like the design themsleves, the motion isn’t pixel perfect. It animates on the screen is natural, but not completely smooth. Instead, consistent movement is prioritized to bring reflect the gritty nature of these designs.
Much like sneaker culture, the motion here never fully rests. It continues to evolve, while always paying homage to the styles that helped to create this culture to begin with.
